Terms of supply and software licence agreement · Last updated 30 August 2026
You buy a licence to run AlphaTill on an agreed number of tills. You own your data and it stays on your own machines. We own the software. We will support it and keep it updated while your licence runs. Don't copy it, resell it, or take it apart — and if something goes wrong, what we owe you is capped at what you paid us in the last twelve months.
Your original till is never switched off remotely, even if your licence lapses. Only an extra till — one beyond what you have paid for — can be stopped, and only after 30 days of warnings. Ring us and we will sort it out.
Tamper with the software or use it to hide takings and that is a different matter entirely: support ends, the machine is barred, we stop supplying you, nothing is refunded, and the rest of your term becomes payable at once. See clause 4A.
This summary is for orientation only. The clauses below are what actually applies.
AlphaTill is supplied by BeAlpha Group Limited, a company registered in England and Wales (number 17391394), registered office 66 Paul Street, London, England, EC2A 4NA ("we", "us").
These terms apply to every supply of AlphaTill software, licences, support and any hardware we resell, unless we have signed a separate written agreement with you, in which case that agreement takes precedence.
We supply AlphaTill to businesses. By ordering you confirm you are acting for the purposes of your trade or profession. Nothing in these terms affects the statutory rights of a consumer, but our sales are business-to-business and the Consumer Rights Act 2015 does not apply to them.
We do not publish a price list. Pricing depends on the number of tills, the setup involved and whether hardware is included, so we quote for each shop individually — contact us about pricing.
A quotation is an invitation to proceed, not an offer, and is valid for 30 days unless it says otherwise. A contract forms when we confirm your order in writing. Invoices are payable within the period stated on them. We may charge interest on late payment at 4% above the Bank of England base rate, in line with the Late Payment of Commercial Debts (Interest) Act 1998.
On payment we grant you a non-exclusive, non-transferable licence to install and use AlphaTill for the internal business of the site or sites named in your order, on the number of tills your licence covers, for as long as your licence remains current.
Each licence is issued as a signed licence key tied to your business and, usually, to a specific till. It is confidential to you.
Installed tills contact us periodically to confirm the licence is valid, and report the version and a checksum of the program files. If a licence is missing, expired, used on more tills than it covers, or the installation appears modified, AlphaTill will display a notice.
Your original till is never stopped. The first till to use a licence keeps it for as long as the licence runs. A licence that has expired, been cancelled, or simply cannot be checked because your internet is down will show a notice and carry on working. We consider a point-of-sale system that refuses to sell to be a worse failure than an unlicensed one.
The one exception is an additional till — one running beyond the number your licence covers, or one whose program files do not match the version we published. In that case only, and only on that extra machine:
If this happens by mistake — you have replaced a computer, restored a backup onto new hardware, or we issued the licence wrongly — contact us and we will release it, usually the same day. A till released by us stays released. We would always rather sort out a misunderstanding than stop a shop selling.
Each till has an ID taken from the machine's own hardware. It is not stored in a file or a setting and cannot be edited from within AlphaTill, so it identifies the physical computer rather than the installation on it. Replacing a network card, renaming the computer or reinstalling Windows does not change it.
Where a computer's manufacturer has not recorded a usable hardware identifier — which happens on some self-built machines — AlphaTill falls back to identifying the till by its computer name and network adapter. In that case, changing either may require us to reissue your licence, which we will do free of charge.
This clause applies if you, or anyone using a till licensed to you:
Where that happens, all of the following apply:
These remedies are in addition to any other right we have, including to recover our losses and to report unlawful conduct to the appropriate authority.
Nothing in this clause applies to ordinary faults, mistakes, or a till flagged in error. If a check has flagged your till and you have done nothing wrong — you replaced a computer, restored a backup, or we issued the licence incorrectly — tell us and we will put it right. We would always rather establish what actually happened than act on a machine reading.
AlphaTill stores your orders, takings, menu and customer details in a database on your own computer. We do not receive a copy and cannot access it. You are responsible for that machine, for its backups, and for your obligations to your own customers under data protection law.
How we handle the personal data we do hold — your contact details as our customer — is set out in our privacy policy.
While your licence is current we provide updates through the built-in updater, and support by email and telephone during business hours. Support covers the software working as described. It does not cover your hardware, your internet connection, your Windows installation, third-party services such as card terminals or delivery platforms, or training beyond the setup we agreed.
We may change or improve features. We will not remove a material feature you rely on without reasonable notice.
AlphaTill runs on your premises and does not need us to be online in order to take orders. We do not guarantee uninterrupted availability of this website, the update service, or the licence service, and none of those is required for your till to trade.
Where we supply hardware, title passes on payment in full and risk passes on delivery. Hardware carries its manufacturer's warranty and we will pass through the benefit of it where we can. We are not the manufacturer.
The software, its source code, its design and the AlphaTill name remain ours. Nothing in these terms transfers ownership. You keep everything you put into it.
Nothing in these terms limits liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, for fraud or fraudulent misrepresentation, or for anything else that cannot lawfully be limited.
Subject to that:
You are responsible for checking that the figures AlphaTill produces are correct before relying on them for VAT returns, accounts or any other filing.
Licences run for the period stated in your order and renew by agreement. Either of us may end the contract on 30 days' written notice, or immediately if the other commits a material breach that is not put right within 14 days of being asked, or becomes insolvent.
We may suspend a licence if an invoice is more than 30 days overdue, or if the licence is being used outside these terms — we will tell you first and give you a chance to put it right, unless the breach is deliberate.
When the contract ends your licence stops. Your data stays on your machines and remains yours; we hold nothing to return. You may keep using the last version installed until your licence period expires, but will no longer receive updates or support.
We may update these terms; the version in force is the one published here when your order is confirmed, and we will tell existing customers about material changes. Neither of us is liable for failure caused by events outside our reasonable control. If a clause is unenforceable the rest stands. Nobody other than you and us has rights under this contract.
These terms and any dispute arising from them are governed by the law of England and Wales, and the courts of England and Wales have exclusive jurisdiction.
